Sidebar: It’s been nearly a week and I am still distrubed, upset and scared by what I saw. I don’t mean to impose, but I’m getting a little anxious. Can I ask, is there anything I can do to vent these feelings and get back to normal. Hi, VV I agree it is very hard to get those appalling images of young women being sexually abused out of your head. What helps me is the fact I’ve read articles and books by anti-porn activists both women and men who do understand how porn operates and not only speak out but they also write about it. When I read these authors I don’t feel so isolated, because I know I am not alone, but rather there are women and some men too who refuse to accept these degrading images and instead believe women are human not sexual refuse bins wherein men can discharge their hatred.
However, what helps one doesn’t always apply to others. Is there anyone you can trust and who you know would not judge, but just listen. Sometimes, speaking about the way these images have affected you to someone who is willing to just listen and not be expected to give platitudes does help. But as Stormy said, these images are there you can’t sadly remove them. One other good thing which helps me is using imagery in that I imagine I can go to somewhere where it is completely safe and no one can get at me. You might like to imagine a lovely place where you are in complete control, no one can enter this place without your permission and you can put whatever you wish in this place, whether it is different colours, animals, people whatever. I’ve always found this imagery very useful and it does help to ground you more in the present. I hope some of these suggestions prove helpful but of course someone else might have more appropriate ones.

Pony, yes - sometimes we (white feminists) do forget to (frequently) mention the racial issues inherent in porn - and we should do so more.
